Arapahoe Community College (ACC) – AYES
The Automotive Technology program at Arapahoe Community College is a premier provider of qualified auto technicians giving students the skills needed in order to succeed in the automotive industry. There are 4 track programs at the college and students will receive classroom instruction, as well as hands on training using the latest tools and techniques used in the automotive industry.
The certified areas at Arapahoe Community College - AYES are Automatic Transmission & Transaxle, Brakes, Electrical Electronic Systems, Engine Performance, Engine Repair, Heating and Air Conditioning, Manual Drive Train & Axles, and Suspension & Steering.
The 2-year Automotive A.A.S. (Associate of Applied Science) and Certificate degree programs at Arapahoe Community College allows students to gain the needed skills as auto technicians as well as prepare them for ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification examinations.
The automotive training program is set up in 4 tracks, which are:
* ASEP - GM- specific program (Automotive Service Educational Apprenticeship Program)
* CAP - Chrysler-specific program (Chrysler College Apprenticeship Program)
* NISSAN - Nissan-specific program (Nissan Denver Technician Apprenticeship Program)
* ATEC - General college program (Automotive Service Technology Program, Independent Apprenticeship Program)
Students in this program are required to pursue an Associate of Applied Science degree, which does require some academic classes. All students in the programs must meet with the program’s Director for acceptance into the program.
Corporate programs require that students be employed as an apprentice in a GM, Chrysler, or Nissan dealership. ATEC students must work as an apprentice for one of the other manufacturers or independent general automotive repair facilities. While the college does not have a placement program they can offer assistance in obtaining a job while attending the program.
In the automotive programs at the college the tools are provided by the Automotive Technology Department for use during classes.
Automotive Service Management Certificate
This certificate program is specifically designed as a work cooperation program for students that want to gaining employment in the auto industry as an automotive service writer/consultant or future service manager. The courses in this certificate program can be taken at the same time as the automotive courses. Students in the program are required to be employed at an automotive service department while taking courses at ACC. All of the entrance eligibility requirements for the certificate program are the exact same as in the degree program.
Electrical/Electronics, Engine Performance Certificate
This program is specifically designed as a work cooperation program for students that are looking to obtain a job as an advanced drive-ability specialist or would like to further their knowledge and training in advanced engine performance. Dealers are currently interested in this specialty because of various advances in technology on current vehicle models that have an increased amount of electrical/electronic devices. Students in the program are required to be employed at an automotive service department while taking courses at ACC. All of the entrance eligibility requirements for the certificate program are the exact same as in the degree program.
