Madison Area Technical College

The Automotive Technology program at Madison Area Technical College offers 2 degree programs, which are Automotive Technician and Automotive Technology. In both programs students will obtain the skills needed in order to have a successful career in the automotive industry. Students will receive both hands on and classroom training from certified instructors using the latest tools and techniques used in the auto industry.

The certified programs at Madison Area Technical College are Automatic Transmission & Transaxle, Brakes, Electrical Electronic Systems, Engine Performance, Engine Repair, Heating and Air Conditioning, Manual Drive Train & Axles, and Suspension & Steering.

Both Automotive Programs offer:

•    Instructors who are Master Certified by the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.).
•    Hands-on experience diagnosing, servicing, and repairing actual road-driven vehicles using the latest equipment and technology.
•    Transferable credits towards a bachelor’s degree at select 4-year institutions.
•    Opportunities to work within the auto industry and earn money while still attending classes.
•    Scholarship opportunities.

Additional Programs

In addition to the Automotive Technician and Automotive Technology programs at Madison Area Technical College students can also participate in AYES (Automotive Youth Educational Systems) training in cooperation with the Dane County Consortium. There are also select courses for the Automotive Technician program that are also offered at the MATC-Watertown Campus.

Automotive Technician

The Automotive Technician program is a 2-year technical diploma program.

Students will lean the technological aspects of automobiles and they will obtain the skills necessary for success in the automotive repair industry. Students will study the principles behind operation, learn how to diagnose symptoms with the latest technology and practice repairing automotive, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. The Automotive Technology program is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF).

Automotive Technology

2-Year Associate Degree

In this program students will learn the technology of the automobile and obtain the skills necessary to be a success in the automotive repair industry. Students will study the principles behind operation, learn how to diagnose symptoms with the latest technology and practice repairing automotive, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems. Also, graduates of this program will have the skills in order to handle the roles of shop foreman, service manager or service director. This program is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF).

Training Opportunities

There are various training opportunities in the Automotive Technology program such as Automotive Seminars, Inc. Automotive Training Group, Carquest Technical Institute and NAPA ( NIAT).
