University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH)

The College of Technologies offers associate degrees, diplomas and certificate programs.  These programs take from 36 weeks to 2 years to complete. Students will receive both classroom work and hands-on training from certified instructors. Enrollment in the technical courses of the College of Technologies is limited to 20 students, so they will be able to get the attention they need from the instructors. Graduates of the College of Technologies programs will be trained to perform entry-level skills in whatever automotive industry field they choose.

Automotive Technology

The job responsibilities of automotive service technicians have changed over the years from mechanical repair to a job that requires the knowledge of higher technology. The UNOH College of Technologies’ Automotive Department offers both diploma and associate degree programs with the training that students will need to not only diagnose and repair today’s automobiles of today, but also the autos of the near future.

The UNOH Automotive program is the best in the U.S. for a variety of reasons. UNOH instructors bring real life experience into the classroom. Students at UNOH are taught using the latest equipment, from Snap-On, Hunter, Summit and others. UNOH is continually updating thecurriculum to stay current with the latest developments from all the O.E.M.’s and manufacturers of aftermarket equipment.

Students of the UNOH College of Technologies’ Automotive Department will start their training by learning both basic theory and operation before advancing to more advanced areas of automobiles. Knowledge-based and performance-based classes are integrated in order to give students a well-balanced education, utilizing our 90 different vehicles from all the major automakers. Courses in this program include:

* Manual and automatic drive trains
* Engine diagnosis and repair
* Suspension and steering
* Automotive air conditioning and refrigeration
* Automotive brake systems

* Computerized engine control systems

Diesel Technology

Students at UNOH will learn Diesel Technologies at the best diesel college in the U.S. and they will receive valuable hands-on training with ASE Master Diesel Instructors in the College of Technologies’ Diesel Department.

The job responsibilities of diesel service technicians are becoming more advanced as more electronic components are controlling the operation of the engines. The UNOH diploma and associate degree programs in Diesel Technology have an innovative and very specialized curriculum, which will provide a great foundation for a rewarding career.

UNOH’s Diesel program is special because the curriculum is current with EPA engine requirements. UNOH utilizes computer engine programs and students will be taught with the latest equipment and training aids in subjects such as:

* EGR diesel engines
* Diesel trucks preventative maintenance
* Diesel truck frames
* Diesel cab electronics
* Diesel steering and suspensions
* Heavy duty diesel transmissions

Training in these courses will be hands-on, using diesel training aids from Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar, DuraMax and others.

Students in the UNOH College of Technologies’ Diesel Department can also get their Commercial Driver’s License so that they can be fully prepared to test drive a diesel semi-tractor trailer outfit.

UNOH also offers programs in the technology fields of High Performance Motor Sports, Alternative Fuels Technology, Agricultural Equipment Technology, and HVAC/R Technology.
