Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College (WITC) Rice Lake

Students in the Automotive Technology department at WITC Rice Lake will obtain the skills needed to work in the automotive industry. Students will receive both hands on and classroom instruction from certified instructors and they will use the latest tools used in the auto industry. The two programs at WITC are the Auto Collision Repair and Refinish Technician program and the Automotive Maintenance Technician program.

The certified areas at WITC Rice Lake are Automatic Transmission & Transaxle, Brakes, Electrical Electronic Systems, Engine Performance, Engine Repair, Heating and Air Conditioning, Manual Drive Train & Axles, and Suspension & Steering.

Auto Collision Repair and Refinish Technician

The Auto Collision Repair and Refinish Technician program is a one-year program that will teach students the skills of auto repair, refinishing, and customization. This program gives students the skills needed to repair vehicles working with the latest repair and refinishing tools. Students will learn how to straighten dents on vehicles, replace panels, and refinish the repair. Students that successfully finish the program will have the skills in order to succeed in the automotive industry. The following subjects are taught in this program:

* Auto Body Repair and Refinishing
* Basic Mathematics
* Automobile Mechanics
* Machine Shop
* Welding
* Basic English
* Art

The skills that students will obtain are ones that employers look for as an Auto Collision Repair and Refinish Technician graduate. The skills are:

* To make repairs on plastic, sheet metal, and fiberglass body parts using the appropriate techniques and materials.
* Straighten damage to body panels using hand tools and power equipment.
* Use MIG welding to repair and replace auto body panels.
* Use refinishing equipment to repair and paint vehicles including surface     preparation and masking.
* Estimate collision damage repair costs.
* Color and blend automobile panels.
* Adjust/replace bolt-on parts, bumpers, fenders, doors, and hood, etc.
* Diagnose and make electrical repairs.
* Restore corrosion protection.

Automotive Maintenance Technician

The Automotive Maintenance Technician program is a 3-semester program where the main focus is on auto assessment, repair, and quality performance.

This diploma program will teach students how to improve engine performance and repair engines, automatic transmissions, manual drive trains, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical/electronic systems, and heating and air conditioning. Students will also benefit from courses in DC electricity, communications, and mathematics.

The skills that students will obtain are ones that employers look for as a Automotive Maintenance Technician graduate. The skills are:
